چکیده

A physical-space version of the stretched-vortex subgrid-stress model is presented and applied to large-eddy simulations of incompressible flows. This version estimates the subgrid-kinetic energy required for evaluation of the subgrid-stress tensor using local second-order structure-function information of the resolved velocity field at separations of order the local cell size. A relation between the structure function and the energy spectrum is derived using the kinematic assumptions of the stretched-vortex model for locally homogeneous anisotropic turbulence. Results of large-eddy simulations using this model are compared to experimental and direct numerical simulation data. Comparisons are shown for the decay of kinetic energy and energy spectra of decaying isotropic turbulence and for mean velocities, root-mean-square velocity fluctuations and turbulence-kinetic energy balances of channel flow at three different Reynolds numbers. © 2000 American Institute of Physics. @S1070-6631~00!00207-5#

Large-eddy Simulation Using the Stretched-vortex Sgs Model

Large-eddy simulations of decaying turbulence and turbulent channel ow using the stretched-vortex subgrid-stress model are presented and discussed. In the stretched-vortex model, the subgrid turbulence is assumed to consist of vortices whose orientations are determined by the resolved velocity eld. This, combined with a relationship connecting the subgrid stresses to the vortex-structure orient...

A vortex-based model for the subgrid flux of a passive scalar

A model for the ux of a passive scalar by the subgrid motions in the largeeddy simulation of turbulent ow is proposed within the framework of the stretched-vortex subgrid stress model. The model is based on an analytical solution for the winding of a scalar eld by an elemental subgrid vortex. This gives a tensor gradient-di usion expression for the local ux of the scalar with subgrid turbulent ...

Numerical Study of Reynolds Number Effects on Flow over a Wall-Mounted Cube in a Channel Using LES

Turbulent flow over wall-mounted cube in a channel was investigated numerically using Large Eddy Simulation. The Selective Structure Function model was used to determine eddy viscosity that appeared in the subgrid scale stress terms in momentum equations. Studies were carried out for the flows with Reynolds number ranging from 1000 to 40000. To evaluate the computational results, data was compa...

A vortex-based subgrid stress model for large-eddy simulation

A class of subgrid stress ~SGS! models for large-eddy simulation ~LES! is presented based on the idea of structure-based Reynolds-stress closure. The subgrid structure of the turbulence is assumed to consist of stretched vortices whose orientations are determined by the resolved velocity field. An equation which relates the subgrid stress to the structure orientation and the subgrid kinetic ene...

Large–eddy simulations of a turbulent mixing layer using the stretched–vortex subgrid model

This paper reports results from a large–eddy simulation of a temporal mixing layer using the stretched–vortex subgrid stress and mixing models. The simulation achieves a Reynolds number of about 2× 107 when based on the momentum thickness. Linear growth of the momentum thickness and collapse of the mean velocity and scalar concentration profiles suggest that the flow is self–similar. Considerab...
